Women Professing Godliness

For quite some time I've been reading many articles regarding modest clothing. I've finally made a decision to follow the Lord's conviction on my heart regarding this subject which I wrote about here.


Also, I believe that I'm not the only woman that has been struggling with this issue. So for any of you who are on the fence, I've collected some sites that have articles regarding this subject.

Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

1 Timothy 2:10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

Many of us have simply been blinded by the world and our culture. We grow up following the examples our mothers have set for us. When we become adults, we sometimes break the mold and go a different way. I have found that if I take God's Word seriously and obey Him, the peace and joy grows within me. We sometimes get caught up in what everyone else is doing or what seems to be the trend, whether in the world or in the church. Just because the preacher allows certain things, doesn't necessarily make them right. We are required by Scripture to prove all things.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

I was guilty of not obeying God in His promptings when the Truth was revealed to me. How can we continue to grow spiritually when we are the ones who have put the brakes on by not obeying?

James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

When we refuse to obey God we are being stubborn and rebellious. Look at what the Scripture says regarding this! Don't just read these key verses, but go and read the whole context of what is being said.

1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Proverbs 7:10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

Proverbs 7:11 (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

Proverbs 17:11 An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

Jeremiah 28:16 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the LORD.

Jeremiah 29:32 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.

All I can tell you is that I have been stubborn and rebellious regarding this subject and now that I am obeying God, I feel a great weight lifted. I have asked God for His forgiveness and repented.

Is God dealing with you regarding something in your life that you are holding on to? Pray and seek His Will. Our time on this earth as Christians should be spent growing in our spirit, becoming more like Christ, so that we can deny our flesh. Have you grown lately? I wonder how far I could have been by now if I hadn't put my brakes on?

Wow Sharon, this is excellent and as you said at the end, can be applied to any area of our life, not just clothing.

This was so good and I know there are areas I need to repent of. One came to mind immediately.OUCH...

I will be with you on your journey my dear. Believe me when i also let go and went to dressing like I felt the Lord wanted me too what a joy! I am so much happier and feel such a burden lifted from me. i used to be dresses only before and got back into wearing pants again but was never totally happy about it. But what you talk about as Michele says, can be applied to so much of our lives! Love and huggles!

Yes, this is why I put it in the post. I ask God on a frequent basis to search my heart and bring to light what needs purging. Though my spirit is willing, my flesh usually isn't. That is why I want to get out all the junk, so that I can see more with spiritual eyes and continue growing.

We all have areas in our life that need tending to and I believe that putting it aside puts the brakes on our spiritual growth. I am wondering what will be next in my life. Will I hesitate to obey? Time will tell. :)
I've asked myself, "Why put off obeying when I know it is of God?!" A lot of times it's worrying too much about what other people will think. Oh! I think I have just stumbled upon another one of my problems! :)

Yes, you're right about not looking back at what could have been. I'm thankful I've now put this behind me and pressing on just as Paul spoke of. :)
